ZLDR Mine
Location
LimburgCapacity
up to 2,500 paxZLDR MINE is housed in buildings of the former colliery of Zolder, which it shares with, among others, a cultural centre, a heritage museum, and private companies. Its main locations are ZLDR Air Factory, the former compressor and hoisting building, and Watt 17, once the power plant of the mine. Both have an authentic industrial feel, since much of the original equipment has been saved. ZLDR MINE offers some truly extraordinary meeting experiences. There’s the beautifully decorated rooms in the former director’s villa, for instance. Or if you prefer thrills, you can hold a meeting in the headframe, 60 metres above ground. Spectacular views guaranteed! If the weather allows, you can even take your event outside.
Iconic buildings, repurposed
The coal seams in the Flemish province of Limburg were discovered at the beginning of the 20th century, but due to the First World War and technical setbacks, the mine of Zolder would only be up and running by 1930. It had three production floors, at a depth of 720, 800 and 900 metres. Above ground, the buildings and technical facilities covered an enormous area, and the giant slagheap, the ‘terril’ in local parlance, became a defining feature in the landscape. When the mine closed down in 1992, it had produced a total of 75 million tons of coal. Parts of the site were demolished, but the most iconic buildings were repurposed. ZLDR MINE is now a lively, multifunctional site, home to a one-of-a-kind meeting and congress venue.
Congress centre surrounded by green
ZLDR MINE may have been an industrial site, but it is surrounded by nature. Your attendees can discover the area on foot or by bike – in fact a bicycle route connects three nature experience sites which are linked to the mine: the Kolenspoor (‘coal railway’), the old sports stadium, and the slagheap. There’s also a museum and heritage experience onsite that offers an insight into the workings of a mine. And if you’re into city life: Hasselt, the capital of the province of Limburg, is close-by. It’s a lively place with a historic centre and lots of restaurants, cafés, and shops.
ZLDR MINE is a truly unique meeting and congress centre, waiting to be discovered. It offers great services, exquisite catering and state-of-the-art meeting equipment. The historic buildings and machinery will lend an industrial feel to your event, but nature – and city life – are never far away. So what are you waiting for?
